Ambedkar College, a General Degree College under the Department of Education (Higher), Government of Tripura, is situated at Laldahar, a village of scenic beauty in the bank of the river Manu in Fatikroy under Kumarghat subdivision of the Unakoti district of Tripura. The college was established on 26th September 1991. Initially the college was running in the campus of Fatikroy Class XII School, afterwards on 15th August 1999 the college got its present permanent campus, which was acquired at the cost of vacating thirty-four families residing in that area who were being rehabilitated by the local administration in Govt. land within 1 KM from the college. Since the initial days of this college marked with the sacrifice of common men of this land and through years of struggles from various fronts, this college has grown to its present form, which comprises of 11.3 acre encompassing an old and a new campus and a sizable number of academicians along with impressive numbers of students. The college is permanently affiliated to the Tripura University (A Central University) and is recognized by University Grant Commission (UGC) under section 2 (f) and 12 (B) since 2010.
The college offers three years (Six Semesters – 2+2+2) Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), Undergraduate (UG) programs, i.e. Bachelor of Arts (B. A.) Honours (TDPH) and General (TDPG) in several subjects, viz. Bengali, Education, Economics, English, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Sanskrit, and Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) General in Physical Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as elective subjects. As per the ten years Perspective Plan for Higher Education in Tripura prepared by the Dept. of Education (Higher), Govt. of Tripura, B.Sc. in Electronics and Biotechnology, Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), Diploma in Forest Technology, Bamboo and Cane Development, and Rural Development will be introduced in the college within 2020.
The college has a well-equipped computer lab and class rooms. Many of the class rooms are well equipped with modern and sophisticated Electronic Teaching Aid. Campus is being monitored by CC camera to control ragging in the campus. Besides the above mentioned planned curriculum the college authority always takes efforts for the all –round progress and development of students.
The aim is not just to impart knowledge to the students but also to inculcate in them-wisdom, compassion, humanism, skills, attitude, knowledge and values. Hope with the sincerity, honesty and transparency of the administration, co-operation of parents, industriousness of students and the able guidance of the teaching fraternity this college will touch a new high in sphere of Higher Education in the state of Tripura.
