Brief Profile of the Department

 

The Department of English was established in the year 2011.At its inception the department offered only the subject of communicative English Pass Course to the students.In2013 the department received the recommendation of introducing Elective English Pass Course and finally in the year 2014 , with the introduction of Honours course which offers an intake capacity of 20 students ;the Department of English was full-fledged and ready to soar high in the realm of Academics .The department has been dedicated to teach ,to nurture and to providea comprehensive study of the language and is equipped with a well-furnished language lab .

The Bachelors programme of English, Ambedkar Collegeprovides comprehensivelearning by covering all the important subfields of Englishlike communicative English,spoken English, English as a foundation course, phonetics, rhetoric and prosody etc. It aims to provide a strong background about learning of this language and the study equips the students to pursue careers, research and in different field of works.

SWOC analysis of the Department:                     

Strength

The strength of the department is the urge of the students to learn, to get acquainted with the subject and the co-operation of the teachers and the Principal for the development of the department.The college is equipped with a language lab where Spoken English classes are taken.

Weakness

Fear about the subject among the students as most of the students has a wrong conception about the language.

Opportunities

To conduct cross-faculty courses and to offer choice short term courses like Certificate/Diploma courses .The college is already offering the students a certificate course in spoken English.

Challenges

To educate the students and helping them to face any kind of job opportunities and to prepare the student to be well qualified to read and speak in English language.

Future plans of the Department

1.To organize a one day seminar on” Women’s writers from the Northeast India’.

2.To organize a Students exchange programme.

3.To hold a programme on “Creative Art/Literary  Fair” in the College in the coming year.
