Profile

Political Science is one of the founding departments of Ambedkar college. It has started its marine journey in the year 1991 along with the establishment of the college. At that time, Smt. Basana Talukder was the Head of the department. Honours course in Political Science was introduced in the year 2002 with 15 Intake capacity, which was increased to 20 during the Academic session 2006-2007 and to 40 during the Academic session 2009-10.Mr. Satyajit Das took charge as the head of the department in the year 2016.

Strength:

Keeping in view the number of students and the courses offered , department is well equipped , department is well equipped with sufficient number of teachers .The relationship between the teachers and the students is also cordial which helps in the proper functioning of the department. Classes are regular and as such courses are completed in time. However, if anything left incomplete or any one left without understanding , students are encouraged to attend classes which is generally meant for ST/SC students .These in the long run , facilitates the students to achieve academic excellence.

Weakness:

Unavailability of sufficient course books in the college library , lack of Govt. funding for organizing departmental activities etc.

Opportunities:

As it is a rural area college, there is a good opportunity to conduct guardian meeting and thereby inform the parents about the development of there children. Seminars on different social issues can be organized which is directly or indirectly relevant to the subject.

Challenges:

Preparing the students for employment opportunities and providing them job has the greatest challenge of the department. Besides , the content of the syllabus could have been updated to make the subject more relevant to our day to day life.
